FOCEI is currently engaged in the implementation of the “Community System Strengthening Resilience & Sustainable System for Health (CSS RSSH) Project.” This initiative is supported by the Global Fund and is being carried out in Kwami Local Government Area (LGA) of Gombe State, Nigeria. The National Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS (NACA) serves as the principal recipient of the project, with ATM CSO Networks (NEPWHAN, TB Network, and ACOMIN) as implementing partners. The project’s primary objectives encompass gathering information from various stakeholders and health facilities concerning HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Malaria, and COVID-19. These insights drive institutional capacity building and support, gender-based violence prevention, post-violence care, and the resolution of human rights and gender-related barriers to accessing healthcare services.
FOCEI’s involvement in the CSS RSSH project has extended to various Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities and communities, including Mallam Sidi, Cottage Hospital Mallam Sidi, Kiyari, Doho Gerkwami, and Kwami Gari. The project’s primary aim is to enhance service delivery at the grassroots level. Implementation activities include a series of advocacy efforts targeting relevant stakeholders, as well as regular Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), Client Exit Interviews (CEIs), and Exist FGDs, all conducted on a monthly basis, leading to positive outcomes.
Achievements: FOCEI’s contributions within the project have yielded several notable achievements. In Kiyari Primary Health Care, the project facilitated the repair of the facility’s labor room drainage and the entire drainage system. Additionally, water and power were restored, benefiting the entire community. Residents now access healthcare facilities without concerns about charging their phones or obtaining water from wells.
In Doho Primary Health Care, the provision of Malaria test kits has had a positive impact on the community, allowing residents to go about their daily activities without fear or caution. Similarly, in Gerkwami Community, the project facilitated the repair of the facility’s borehole through robust resource mobilization efforts. This repair was made possible by the collaborative efforts of FOCEI’s Community Lead Monitoring Team and community members, who worked together through advocacy and community-based resource mobilization.
The Global Fund currently supports two projects in Nigeria: the COVID-19 Response Mechanism (C19RM) project in 12 states and the Community Systems Strengthening towards Resilient & Sustainable System for Health (CSS-RSSH) Project in six states. The CSS-RSSH Project spans from January 2022 to December 2023.
